Hidden hit area for movie clips

An easy solution

By: Josh Knight

This is more of a reminder for my self, than a tutorial or anything but, maybe it'll help someone. If you have a movie clip with an irregular shape, but you want the hit area to be a regular shape - like a square or a circle - try drawing a the shape you want for the hit area with a white fill. Then, select it and hit f8 to create a movie clip for the shape. Finally choose multiply from the blend mode drop down. As long as your shape is white, that will make it invisible. But, still active.

If this helps anyone out there, I'd love to hear about it.

Thanks,

Josh

I\'ve also found (in a similar way to above) that you could just create a shape (making it a MovieClip is not needed) on a new layer and set the fill to 0%. It\'s part of the button MC, but completely invisible.

On a side note: I usually use green #00FF00 at 25% for anything that will be invisible during the design and layout phase to see where they all are, then prior to compile switch to 0%; I also use the same color/alpha combo when creating masks as they are hard to miss visually yet easy to see though.
